On Thursday 12th March Sir John Hegarty one of the founders of the agency BBH came to give us a talk on creativity. He describes two types of creativity, one being pure creativity for example the Mona Lisa or the concept of The Simpsons, and applied creativity would be the script for The Simpsons.
This link (http://www.campaignlive.co.uk/news/1303564/) is to an article on Campaign on the 6 ads that made BBH, these I would say are the applied creativity. The Levi's adverts have always been good, especially the black sheep 'when the world zigs, zag' advert, after this they adopted that as their logo as it depicted what their work stood for- doing things differently and standing out from the crowd.
Pure creativity comes from the peoples brains like Sir John Hegarty who creates the ideas for the advertisements. 'Art without an idea is just decoration' is something John said which stuck with me, for me its when you look at something and understand there is a deeper meaning or understanding behind. He says he likes to get his ideas from the world around him, he isn't stuck with his head in his phone or a newspaper while he is walking around or on the train, he is observing and taking it all in. The world is art and probably one the best places you can get ideas from, I really enjoyed his talk and what he has said will definitely stay with me, I am more mindful is daily life and have always enjoyed people watching.
